The Miami Dolphins officially signed cornerback Chris Culliver on Wednesday and placed him on the active/physically unable to perform list.

Culliver’s contract is expected to be for one year and worth up to $5 million, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported.

Culliver, 27, is trying to come back from right knee surgery after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament during a Washington Redskins practice leading up to a Thanksgiving game last fall. He was released by the Redskins in May after signing a four-year, $32 million contract in March 2015.

Culliver has played in 52 games with 26 starts in his four-year NFL career. He has totaled 137 tackles (119 solo), seven interceptions and 34 passes defensed in his career. Culliver played three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers (2011-12, 2014) and was with the Redskins in 2015. He posted career-highs in tackles (45) and interceptions (4) in 2014 with the 49ers.

Culliver originally entered the NFL as a third-round selection by the 49ers in the 2011 draft after playing collegiately at South Carolina.

The Dolphins also released center/guard Jacques McClendon and linebacker Danny Lansanah.

McClendon played in three games for the Dolphins in 2015 after spending several stints on the team during the season. He was most recently signed by the Dolphins on Dec. 22 and originally joined the team as an unrestricted free agent on April 22, 2015. McClendon has played in 25 career games with five starts for the Indianapolis Colts (2010), Jacksonville Jaguars (2013-14) and the Dolphins (2015). He was originally a fourth-round draft pick by the Colts in 2010.

Lansanah joined the Dolphins on Aug. 3 after playing 16 games with 11 starts for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015. Throughout his three-year NFL career, Lansanah has played in 38 games with 22 starts for the Green Bay Packers (2008) and Bucs (2013-15), totaling 126 tackles (86 solo), 2.5 sacks and three interceptions. He was originally signed by the Packers as an undrafted college free agent on May 2, 2008.
